The Scholarship Story And Bob Proctor

SPEAKER_01

You're listening to Shine on Success, the show where we talk with remarkable entrepreneurs about how they've turned their vision into victory. Today I'm talking with someone who truly embodies what it means to align mindset and business mastery. Patricia Stepler is the founder of Creating Top Producers, a powerhouse business growth strategist who helps entrepreneurs achieve profitability and time freedom. She's a former educator-turned entrepreneur, and her journey was inspired by a moment that changed everything when her son manifested a full scholarship after she began studying with Bob Proctor, and I can't wait to hear about that. Now Patricia helps others do the same, combining mindset mastery with proven business strategy to help clients build high-performing teams, scale with clarity, and align their vision with measurable results. Hello, Patricia. Welcome. How are you doing today?

SPEAKER_00

I'm doing great, Deion. How are you?

SPEAKER_01

I'm doing really good too. I always like to start with this one question. What is one thing you would like people to know about you that's not in your bio?

SPEAKER_00

That's not my bio. I think that, you know, I was always somebody's mom. And I was, I was never um who I was, you know. I was Rachel's mom or Renee's mom or Danny's mom. You know, I didn't have my own identity. And, you know, it was okay for a while, but then yeah, it got to be a problem.

SPEAKER_01

So I'm I'm not a mom. I'm a dog mom. So I don't, you know, I don't understand that because I don't have kids. So I've always just been D.O. Malice, you know, for my whole 57 years. So yeah, I'm interested to find out everything that you do. Of course, I love Bob Proctor. He's played a nice role in my life and Napoleon Hill and, you know, Wallace Waddles and all the great our house mindset people. So I I believe wholeheartedly in the power of mindset and positive thinking. So let me ask you this from educator to entrepreneur, what inspired you to make that leap?

SPEAKER_00

Well, it was my son, actually. And he he actually got the scholarship before I even really started working with Bob Proctor. That's what led me to Bob. So my son, when he was 12, told me that I didn't need to worry about saving money for college because my oldest daughter was in college and my second daughter was about to go. And he decided he would get a scholarship. And I thought it was really cute, but I didn't believe him. But I also knew enough because I had done personal development pretty much my entire adult life, so I knew not to steal his dream. So I decided to let him just believe his little fantasy and I'd keep saving money for him. And, you know, so when he decided to get the scholarship, he was going to be a collegiate athlete. And we all know how often that doesn't happen too. And then he decided it was going to be baseball, which you know, you don't really get full scholarships in baseball. And um, so when he did get a full scholarship, which was academic, wasn't he did go to play baseball, but it was an academic scholarship. I was like, I knew he caused this, but I don't know how he did it. And that led me to Bob because I had to find somebody that had the answer. And Bob was the one that knew.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, that's amazing. So you still, how long did you study under Bob Proctor?

SPEAKER_00

Probably about 10 years. I mean, I was still I I'm a consultant with his company. So up until he died, yeah, I was, you know, still a consultant with his with his company.

How The Mind Shapes Results

SPEAKER_01

So I know, and maybe some of you out there know that he is one of the greatest, my uh greatest teachers of mindset and human potential. And I my big one of my bigger regrets in my life is that I had an opportunity to go and work with him at his home when he used to do those home like three or four-day events. And I didn't go. I was afraid to fly then by myself. And I wished I wished I would have gone. But what was one of the biggest lessons you took away from that experience that still guides you today?

SPEAKER_00

From working with Bob was just understanding how the mind works. And like you said, he was he was a master at it. And you know, he just he got people to understand that we have these habitual patterns inside our subconscious, and unless we are aware of them and change them, they're pretty much guiding our entire life. And so when you get frustrated, you really got to change your habits that you have.

SPEAKER_01

So many business owners struggle with balancing profitability and freedom. And I feel like that's something as a business owner, it's it's been difficult. You know, how do you live your life and still have your company working? And while you're if you're not there, how do you make money still? And, you know, are you able to do that? So, what's a mindset principle that helps shift the dynamic of balancing profitability and freedom?

SPEAKER_00

I think one of the biggest mindset things is we have to realize that we have to become the person first. And so when we when we stay stuck or when we, you know, don't see much change, it's because we haven't changed ourselves. And to get to that next level, we have to be somebody different. We have to become somebody different. We have to have a bigger vision, but we also have to do different actions because if you do the same thing you're doing, you're gonna get the same results. And you know, so if you want, if you want more, you're gonna have to change something.

Decision, Focus, And Distractions

SPEAKER_01

So you work with a lot of entrepreneurs, right? And uh they you teach them to become top producers. So in real estate, we always call top producers the top agents. But you're talking about a top producer in an industry, right? In their whatever industry it is. So what separates those who breakthrough from those who stay stuck?

SPEAKER_00

First is decision. You have to make a decision. If you if you don't make a decision to be a top producer or to do more, you'll just stay in the average where the masses are. So the first thing is a decision. And then I think after that, you really have to have the drive and you have to keep that focus on the goal that you want, because you we've got a lot of distractions in our lives. And I think more today than maybe ever. And you have to learn how to focus on the goal desired and to keep moving towards it.

Choosing Tools Without Overwhelm

SPEAKER_01

I feel right there, I'm in that, what you're saying. There's so many things coming at us all the time, so many classes or ideas or trainings, or learn this and learn this AI tool, and you're gonna do better, you're gonna make money. There's so many things coming at us. So, how do you teach someone how to ignore all of that and focus on one thing?

SPEAKER_00

Well, don't think you have to ignore all of it because some of it's gonna help you. You know, some of the AI will actually save you time, and and there's some benefits to learning that. So I think you have to find a couple of things. But here's one of the things that I did early on in my own business is I would somebody would say, Oh, you need to do this. So then I would, you know, kind of go over there and do that. And then somebody else would say, Oh, you need to do that. I'd go over there and do that. You can't, you can't do it all. So find the things that really resonate with you and stay with that. And I think, you know, with technology changing, I know Darren Hardy, I listened to him a couple of, this was a few years ago, and he was talking about one year today is like a hundred years in the past. That's how things are moving. Well, I think it's even probably faster now, and things are changing so quickly. So you you kind of have to find those things that will help you and make your life a little simpler and less stressful and learn those techniques or technologies that are there and you know, and find the ones that, you know, are gonna help you to move forward, but you can't do everything. We it's just not possible.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, and I try, trust me, I try to do everything. And there was a point when I was looking at my calendar and I still look at it. It's so overwhelming to open my calendar that I don't even look at it until the morning because I know I don't want to sleep knowing what the whole day becomes. I know what's on there, you know, subconsciously. I know the there. And I I'm starting to feel that it's just so many things. And and I can't possibly be good at any one thing if I have 10 different things at one time that I'm trying to do. So a lot of that came out of grief. I wasn't as bad before, but then when my dad passed away, and then like a year ago, we found out my husband needed a liver transplant. So I think I've filled my calendar with so many things so I don't grieve or be sad or worry. Because if I'm doing something, then I can't do the other things that are causing all of that. So, you know, I really appreciate what you said. There is a lot coming at us, and to try to find what resonates is for some people, and I'm sure people in the audience, it's it's hard because there's so many great choices out there. It's kind of like being on a buffet, right? You have this buffet and all these different things that try. You want to try them all, but then you're so sick at the end because you're not supposed to eat that many different foods at one time, and body just doesn't love that. I think in a when I'm sitting here thinking about what you're saying is that I'm creating this whole buffet of things in my world, and then I'm not really doing any of them great. So, anyways, how do you help someone like me? Which there's plenty of people that are like me, you know, I own a company, we have 200 plus people in the company. It's it's a lot, but we have I have a great staff that helps, you know, helps make it easier for me. How do you help them or me align with our vision with measurable results when you're overwhelmed or unclear?

Leaving Teaching To Train Leaders

SPEAKER_00

You know, clarity is one of the things I I notice most with people that they don't have that clear vision, they don't have that clear idea of what it is that they want. I think you also have to realize, you know, I think of when I grew up and I didn't have a lot of choices. I didn't think, you know, as a as a woman, your secretary, uh, teacher, nurse. I mean, that seemed to be the things that you could do. And I see now that there are so many different occupations, there are different things to do. And, you know, of course, back then people didn't travel like they do today. So they would stay closer. So there are a lot of choices. And I think it's fine to get to the point where, you know, you want to say, I want to explore this other area. And maybe that's a time where you step back from what you're doing and embrace a new idea. You know, I see so many people that they get in this routine, they're doing the same thing over and over again. And that's one of the reasons I left teaching. I could still be teaching today if I wanted, but I wanted to try something different because, you know, my son inspired me, but then it was, well, what can I do to help more people? And, you know, help maybe help a different group of people because I felt like I had that teaching thing under my belt pretty much. So I don't think there's anything wrong with that. I think, I think we're as human beings, we're made to explore different things and to have different options. And I think it's kind of a neat thing when you do find an interest in another area that you can explore, and then, you know, maybe you can go back to where you are even.

SPEAKER_01

So tell us a little bit about your business. How did you start it? Why did you start it? You're teaching, and now you're an entrepreneur. A lot of times, you know, teachers just take do their whole career as teachers and then retire one day, and you're different, you're doing it differently. So tell me about that.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. So I I really, after my son got that scholarship, I explored that. And I was fascinated by listening to Bob and understanding how he explained the mind. And yet I realized that most of the children I taught were probably never going to hear that. And, you know, the the impact, even though I thought my three kids were pretty amazing, I knew the kids I taught could be too. So I thought, well, maybe a better avenue would be to go towards the adults and the parents. So that led me to do corporate training for a year and a half with a company. And I was able to reach out and help me to understand businesses and what they needed and what managers saw as problems. But oddly enough, managers and employers had the same issue with their employees that teachers had with kids. So it was like nobody ever grew up. And so that was like, well, that that was also a little bit frustrating because of the contract I was under. I couldn't give them the information I felt they really needed. So that led me to starting my own business and working as a Procter Gallagher Institute consultant and then developing my own programs as I saw needs for different um people and to help them. But yeah, I don't think I do retirement very well. I yeah, I like to keep busy. I like to keep active and doing things. I saw my parents retire and, you know, then they kind of stopped and there was no excitement. And I think the most excitement you have in life is when you're actively doing something. And I love seeing 70 and 80, you know, year olds out there still making a difference in the world.

From Learning To Action

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I love that too. And I I do feel like sometimes people, when they retire, they just they have no purpose anymore. It's if they just they get sick, they don't feel well. And like you, I think I'm not sure I'm ever gonna retire. I kind of like the idea of being an entrepreneur forever. So I love what you're doing. I think it's incredible. And I love the name of your company. It's it's definitely really cool. So a lot of times, though, people will take every training that comes up, everything that's out there, and they don't get any traction, right? They just keep taking the class, a forever student. How do you get them to actually do the actionable items to get to the next level? Because you could get stuck in the in that roller coaster ride of, you know, one class, one personal development, you know, study this company, this company, study with that company. It's a lot and it's interesting. You get so interested in it. There's so many cool ideas about the same thing, different people, the way that they teach it. And Bob was a master of teaching. You could just listen to him for hours. He was so good. So, how do you do that? How do you get them to, you know, get to the next level? Where where do they go? How do they start?

SPEAKER_00

Wait, with my mind that I I've changed this over the years, but I try to give more action steps and less talk because you can you can get so wrapped up in learning. And and I know I have books all over the place, and some I've never even really opened the cover for, and others that I just read over and over again. And, you know, I I think we get we get hung up in that that we don't know enough. And so we think we have to keep learning and learning. But what we really need to do is action. And we so I try to make it so that my clients have to take action steps so they know if something's going to work or not. A lot of times I believe that we've got all the answers inside of us. And that was another thing that Bob taught, you know, that we have all the answers. We just need maybe somebody to help pull them out, but it's those action things that you really need to do because that's what's going to make the difference, the action and then the reaction. And when you're moving forward, the universe is coming towards you.

Teaching Success Principles To Youth

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. So I had a thinking grow rich mastermind for about seven and a half years. We started out, we used to meet once a month, and we had about 40, 50 people at any given time. It was amazing. And then COVID hit, and then we started doing virtual, and then everybody kind of didn't show up until we were down to about five people now. And every week we do a call and we we it's great and we've learned stuff, and I've seen amazing changes in people and their dreams come true and their dream board come true. I always had this idea that about education, because you know, go I went to art school after I graduated from high school. I wanted to be a doctor my whole life, and then I went to art school. Total opposite, total income difference, huge, right? And then I thought to myself one day, what if they started teaching think and grow rich at like the seventh grade level? What if they taught principles of success instead of let's follow 200 years ago? That I mean, it's just it's interesting. History is interesting, and history is what made us who we are today. And at the end of the day, principles of six success I don't feel have ever been taught. I don't understand why that doesn't happen. And I wonder, as a as an educator, did you ever think like that? What if they put some of this into the junior high level where kids are just being formed, their opinions are being formed, everything's changing for them. What are your thoughts on that?

Faith, Belief, And Purpose In Business

SPEAKER_00

Well, that's kind of interesting because so I taught music. And the very last year that I was there, I took the book, the John Gordon book, The Energy Bus and used that with my ever every kid in a building and had some songs that we sang for it and tried to teach them those principles. But in in my copy of Think and Grow Rich, it actually talks, Napoleon Hill talks about, you know, if this was taught in school, how you could eliminate some of the years of schooling that people could get through much quicker. And the reason it's not taught, quite honestly, is because teachers don't know. They have no clue. And so they're not taught their success principles. And while you'll have some teachers that will do goal setting and things like that, that was the traditional goal setting that I grew up with. And the principles in Think and Grow Rich are talking about, you know, the underlying there of the law of attraction is there. He didn't come out and say that, but it's there. And then he talks about, you know, the the persistency and you know how you have to keep moving forward. And so I do believe if it was taught, but but it won't happen because teachers are never taught that. So you know, just like we never learned that in school. No, it's no, it's not going to happen, you know. And so you would change that.

SPEAKER_01

How do we change the world?

Client Case Study: Scaling Construction

SPEAKER_00

Like you and me, can we do it? Yeah. So, you know, I actually developed a program to go into elementary schools, and there's where I got kind of stopped because there there was no acceptance for that idea. You know, it's it's a lot of mindset shifts that need to happen from superintendents to principals to the teachers to to actually get digital ideas in there. And I know I've talked to a couple other people that have had similar ideas, and that's where the problem exists is trying to get it into those systems. Interestingly enough, you you're saying about your book study with Think and Grow Rich. I went to one at a local library. They have this monthly book study, and the one month where they had Think You Grow Rich, I was super excited to go. I was just like, oh yes, this is a book I know. And I get there, and the first person was like, I just couldn't get past the title. And then another person was like, How do you just think and grow rich? I read like 20 pages, you know, they didn't even read the book, and so I kept trying to show them what was going on. And I thought, okay, that's the last time I'm going back to that book. We are not in the same plane here. No. So I mean, there's a lot to overcome. And but I do think it's possible because even in the years since I've met um Bob and learned, you know, the law of attraction things, people have changed their feelings about that. You know, when I when I first got introduced to it, I even thought, oh, this is just way out there. This is not how it happens. But then when I look back at what my son had done, it was exactly what he did. And so you can't deny it. And then I looked back on my own life and was like, well, yeah, I attracted things in my life too. I just didn't know because I was not aware. So I think that awareness isn't quite there yet. Maybe someday it will be.

Daily Rituals And Visualization

SPEAKER_01

Maybe it will. And you know, we don't always have to go into the school. We could create our own coaching program for, you know, for the middle school kids, parents that want the success for their kids may actually look at this and say, I want my kids to learn this. I want them to have a better mindset going out of here. Because, you know, with all the things and all the millionaires made today with social media and the things that are happening, they have to have the right mindset to hold on to it and keep it and keep things going. And, you know, I I don't feel that I feel for my own self. Like I look at our career and, you know, being a real estate brokerage growing like we did, we were successful in spite of ourselves. Like we did it because we believed we could. And most people said that we would never make it, right? We couldn't do it. There's no way. And we just kept doing it anyway. And, you know, I I just don't focus on the negative. I just can't. And I just told you about two very important things in my life. My dad passed away, who was one of my God, I loved him so much. It was, it's unbelievable. And not everybody has the greatest relationship with their dad, but I did. And so I miss him terribly. And my husband, a year later, I find out he has to have a liver transplant. And we had it in in uh March, been the hardest six months I've ever had. And here I am, still here smiling, trying to help other people, right? Because I know that I don't want to live in that. I can't let either of those things define who I am today. I have to continue to on my search to help other people and to keep, you know, keep proving that what I say is the truth. And if I didn't, then who would ever believe me? Right. Yeah. So, you know, I've been through a lot too, like everyone else, everyone, people on this call, I know you've been through things. And even your career you can overcome them. So let's talk about the success story at applying your experience working transformation through your process.

Trusting Ideas And Potential

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, actually, it was my very first clients, and they had such great success. They came to me because she was actually a professor in a college, and she was just fed up. And so they decided to start a construction business because that was more her husband's forte, but she was going to build woman-owned business. And so she actually started it while he was still working, and they were only earning about$180,000, but not a penny was going in her pocket because I went to buy equipment, to pay their employees, you know, everything that they needed to do. And even they were using money from her husband's salary. And so they they came with to me and I helped them to shift their thinking and to really, you know, go after their dreams. And so their dream was to build luxury homes. And so we got to the point where they started building some luxury homes. Every year they were doubling or tripling their income. And they even had this land that they were going to develop, and things, you know, kept they kept being roadblocks into that development of that land for one reason or another. And said never came about. And then they started to go towards commercial. Well, about the same time, her husband came home from work. He started working in the business, and he started the commercial end of it. And she was still doing luxury homes and then. She decided, you know, I don't necessarily like working with the owners of these luxury homes because they can be a little difficult to work with. And you know, in and the commercial business was gaining so much and they made a better profit there. So they started really going after the commercial business. And, you know, they've gone from 108,000, 13 million in in about 10 years. I mean, it's just been a phenomenal change. And they just keep growing. And they're to the point they can't stop growing. You know, they just keep getting these contracts. And, you know, it's just been amazing the transformation they had. And that was just because they allowed themselves to believe the principles I was teaching, which you know, I learned from Bob.

SPEAKER_01

Of course. So do you have a daily habit or ritual that help you that helps you stay aligned and focus on your own vision?

SPEAKER_00

I do. I I read a a book. And right now I've been reading um while Steve Waddle's The Science is Getting Rich. I just love that book. And it's not just reading it, it's studying it. So I'll spend maybe a week or two reading the exact same chapter because I want to get it ingrained. I don't want to just read, read it and breeze by. I want to make sure it gets ingrained. And even though I've read that book probably, I don't know how many times I usually read it at least once a year. And I've read it so many times and I listen to the recordings of it. It's just such a powerful book. So that's what I do. And then I also write my goal down and visualize my goal because I think that's really important. And I keep reminders of like I have a whiteboard of I love to travel. So my trips are all there. And I keep that to remind me of what year I'm taking what trip. And you know, that's that's just a reminder every time I walk in my office, it's there.

SPEAKER_01

So I created something that in 2024 was my vivid vision. I don't know if you ever read a Cameron Herald. But it's like I created it. And all the things I want my husband's in there with me on these. So I kind of got a little bit behind on my dreams because I had to help him get through a major, you know, major time in his life. It's really amazing to have something like this that you can look at all the time. And I love the idea of a dream board, but I like this better because it's words and and pictures. So you kind of hit all of the emotions. You get to touch it, you know, smell it. It still smells good, you know. So I love that idea. And making dreams come true is what I live for. And I've seen people in my group where they had their entire dream board come true. And one day they looked at it, and I remember her telling me that her little girl said, Look, mommy, that's our new house. And she said she didn't realize it. But the funny thing was it was like mirrored, like it was opposite direction, but it was the same house, but it was just different on the paper, how it printed. She actually had the house. So it's really cool. I love I love this, and I know some people don't understand it, but you really don't have to understand it. You just have to live in the knowing that it's you know, it's gonna be what it's gonna be. You can make it whatever you want it. You live how you want to live, be what you want to be. It's all possible. You don't have to know how it all happens. And when you have to stop and figure it all out, that's when some people just they can't get past, can't get their own way because they're trying to figure out how to do it.

SPEAKER_00

It just right, right? They try and make their own plan. And just like my son found out where he's going after that baseball scholarship, his plan didn't work. He had to allow the universe to show him the right plan.

SPEAKER_01

So, for you, how how does faith, belief, or purpose show up in your business decisions?

SPEAKER_00

Faith shows up just that I I, you know, trust of where I'm going. And I I just feel that you you have to allow things to happen. And when you have a disappointment or you find something that doesn't work, you have to keep in mind that's probably because there's a better way out there. And instead of being discouraged and quitting, you have to just keep going. And soon it appears, and you just trust that it happens. And you know, as far as purpose, I just feel this is what I'm supposed to be doing, helping other people to understand all this. And, you know, I I felt like that was Bob's mission. You know, he wanted to have a group of consultants out there that were sharing this with the world.

SPEAKER_01

And he does they're still sharing it. So there's his son is out there sharing it too, right? Yes. So, what is one thing you want people to remember about after hearing this conversation about you?

SPEAKER_00

I think just to have belief in yourself and to realize that you you've got so much more potential inside of you than you realize. And and and the other thing, and I think people need to keep this in mind when you get an idea of something you'd like to do, don't dismiss it. Don't say, but I don't have the ability. No, you're not given that idea without giving also having that ability. You may have to find it, you may not realize you have those skills and talents, but they're in there because you don't get an idea you can't do.

What’s Next And Where To Find Patricia

Oh, I love that. I was on a call a couple of weeks ago, and this guy was talking to you, and he's like, I believe in me. Like he said it so confidently, and I was like, Oh, I love that. Like, I believe in me. So I can do whatever I want to do. And he said that's true. But I don't know, this is such an interesting conversation. I'm so glad we're having it. So, what's next for you in creating top producers?

SPEAKER_00

Creating top producers is finding, um, I'm developing a new program that is very action-oriented because I want people to take action. And I feel like we talked earlier, people get too caught up in the learning part. So I'm scrapping some of the learning part and getting into the action. I mean, there's still learning there too, but I want people to take action because that's what's going to make the difference. And the way the world's moving so quickly, we have to move quickly too.

Closing And Listener Invitation

I love that. So, Patricia, thank you so much. It was a powerful conversation, as I expected. Thanks for sharing your story, your vision. I love what you're doing. The fact that you're a teacher, I think makes this even better for me because you already know that side, you know how to teach people. So now you're going to teach them something that is so relevant to having an incredible life. I love that. So, to everyone listening, if today's episode helps help you see success in a new light, take a second to share it with someone who needs that spark of belief. And don't forget, you can catch more inspiring interviews like this every week on Shine on Success. Until next time, keep growing, keep believing, and keep shining.
